Helping students return to the classroom was the driving force behind Corpus Christi ISD’s 2022 Operation K.E.Y.S. Walk, which took place on September 17. During the event, 132 district staff and volunteers visited more than 200 homes across the city to connect with families and students.
Before the teams departed, volunteers gathered at Mary Carroll High School’s arena to collect resources and student address forms. High school cheer teams and Carroll High School’s drum line created a festive atmosphere. Jennifer Noyola, coordinator for attendance, dropouts and leave prevention, CCISD Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez and CCISD Board of Trustees President addressed the crowd with messages of gratitude and encouragement.
“Our goal today is to reach out to the parents and students to show them that we are here to help them – whatever the situation is that they are going through,” said Dr. Hernandez. “Thank you to all of the volunteers who showed up this morning; you are truly making a positive impact.”
The event is coordinated by the Office of Admissions, Attendance and Student Support and coincides with Attendance Awareness Month. According to the 2022 Attendance Awareness Campaign, regular attendance is vital for student success.
