The PTAs at Foy H. Moody High School, E.E and Jovita Mireles Elementary School and Windsor Park Elementary School recently helped their schools become a 2021-2023 National PTA School of Excellence. Each school was recognized for building a strong, effective family-school partnership that enriches students’ educational experiences and overall well-being. To celebrate their achievements, National PTA presented each school and their PTAs with a certificate and a National PTA School of Excellence banner to proudly display.
“I have a child who is a student at Moody and so do many of my staff,” said Enrique Vela, Moody High School principal. “That is why I believe it’s important to validate the relationship between the community and school as well as involve and engage our parents.”
As part of the year-long commitment, Moody High School’s PTA used community feedback to set goals and create programs that make a difference for Trojans. One program they implemented was “Create with Kindness,” a National PTA program that helps parents and guardians learn more about how their teens use TikTok. The program, which TikTok sponsors, also teaches teenagers and adults how to use the app to spread kindness.
“All of our board members have the same passion,” said Brenda Crawley, PTA treasurer, board member and past PTA president. “For the last 11 years, we have all worked together on different PTAs and we knew that when we came to Moody, we would make a difference.”
National PTA’s School of Excellence program provides a framework for PTAs and schools to identify and implement best practices in family engagement to strengthen family-school partnerships. Through the School of Excellence program, PTAs and families become key partners in decision-making and school improvement efforts.
