Excitement filled the air on Aug. 9 as teachers and staff eagerly waited outside their respective schools to welcome back students for the first day of the 2022-2023 school year.
CCISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roland Hernandez made a special stop at Joseph T. Dawson Elementary School to greet each student with a smile. At Luther Jones Elementary School, students walked hand-in-hand with their parents to their new classrooms while carrying bags of shiny new school supplies and wearing their best outfits. One student, Malena Scott, said she even had her nails painted a glittery blue to celebrate the occasion.
Fourth and fifth-graders at Faye Webb Elementary School were settling into their classrooms, and the Zachary Kolda Cadets celebrated their school’s 10th anniversary with a special flag raising. Mary Carroll High School students were greeted by their spirited drumline and cheerleaders, while Richard King High School Principal Prudence Farrell personally welcomed her students to the “KINGdom.” Scenes like this played out districtwide as the school year began.
“Seeing so many smiling faces fill the halls of our schools is always one of the best parts of the first day,” said Dr. Hernandez. “I want to thank our families for choosing CCISD and our phenomenal educators and staff for making today such a wonderful experience for our students and their families.”
