Corpus Christi ISD celebrated the opening of Buccaneer Stadium’s new press box during a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 26. The ceremony occurred before the first game of the 2022-2023 football season, where the W.B. Ray High School Texans defeated the J. W. Nixon High School Mustangs. The two-story press box is the latest in a series of bond-funded improvements for Roy Miller High School.
“I am proud of the many academic, athletic, fine arts and extracurricular opportunities we provide our students,” said CCISD Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. “These activities teach our students self-discipline and teamwork, skills they can use to succeed in the classroom.”
The 4,414 square foot press box features two levels. On the first level are rooms for coaches, announcers, television, writing, radio and news media. A video production room is also on the first level. The fully equipped production room will offer CCISD high school students hands-on experience and instruction. A frameless window system gives unobstructed views of the field, and an elevator adds accessibility.
Thanks to voter approval of Bond 2016 and Bond 2020, the following renovations to Miller High School were also made possible:
- Classroom, hallway and restroom renovations
- Gymnasium addition
- Law enforcement classrooms
- New ROTC facility
- Bus loop
- New computer labs
- Updated main entrance
- Renovated administration wing
“We are grateful for the ability to make these upgrades possible,” said CCISD Board of Trustees President Jane D. Bell. “They support a modern learning environment for Miller High School students and staff.
