Tiger pride was on full display on August 5 as students, staff, alumni and community members gathered in the new arena for the Mary Carroll High School ribbon cutting event. Corpus Christi ISD leadership commemorated the new school in a brief ceremony before inviting guests to participate in student-led campus tours.
Carroll High School’s Student Council President and senior Xavier Ruiz opened the ceremony.
“We are setting the foundation in academics and extracurricular activities for every class that comes after us,” said Ruiz when asked what message he had to share with his fellow students.
Attendees were surprised with a pre-recorded message from Carroll High School’s first valedictorian, Dr. Norval Kaneeton. Other speakers included CCISD Board President Jane D. Bell, Board Vice President Jaime Arredondo and Carroll High School Principal Robert Arredondo.
“We will embrace our traditions while also embracing the multitude of opportunities this amazing facility affords our students,” said Arredondo, a 1995 Carroll graduate. “We enthusiastically embark on the next chapter of Tiger greatness!”
An array of excited students, staff, and board members then gathered to cut the ribbon to signify the school’s official opening.
“From 2008 to this time next year, our community will have nearly 20 new CCISD schools, with many more having undergone significant renovations,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. “There is no limit to what we can accomplish together for the benefit of our children and the community.”
