Staff at Carl O. Hamlin Middle School welcomed students and their parents during their September 15 open house. Before touring the school and meeting with teachers, families met in the cafeteria to enjoy burgers and listen to information about Title I and Bond 2022.
Parent Liaison Erica Salinas said middle school is when parents should get most involved.
“A lot of parents believe they should take a step back when their children reach this age,” she said. “But this is when parent engagement and guidance is the most important because students need to know they have their parent’s support.”
Built in 1954, Hamlin Middle School has served several generations of Corpus Christi families. Courtney Fox, a former student and parent to 8th-grader Zoey Fox (pictured left), said she was glad to have the opportunity to meet her daughter’s teachers.
“I think every parent should be involved in what their kids are doing and see who they are learning from,” she said.
Parents unable to attend the open house may reach out to their student’s teacher or email Parent Liaison Erica Salinas at Erica.Salinas@ccisd.us to schedule a visit.
