Psychological Services

Psychological Services is a department of the Office of Special Education for Corpus Christi ISD.  The department consists of Special Education Counselors, Child Find, Licensed Specialists in School Psychology (LSSPs), and Educational Diagnosticians.  All of these staff work with students that have disabilities or are suspected of having a disability that prevents them from acquiring or demonstrating adequate academic, social, emotional and/or behavioral skills.

Special Education Counselors evaluate children with disabilities for the need to provide counseling, training, or mentoring.  They promote emotional wellness by reinforcing communication and social skills, problem solving, anger management, self-regulation, self-determination, and optimism.

LSSPs are highly trained in both psychology and education.  Their training emphasizes preparation in mental health and educational interventions, child development, learning, behavior, motivation, curriculum and instruction, assessment, consultation, collaboration, school law, diversity, and culture.  LSSPs identify and address learning and behavioral issues that interfere with school success.

Educational Diagnosticians are part of a multidisciplinary team intended to identify and resolve academic barriers to learning.  They work with the campus to design academic strategies and interventions and to create an effective individualized education program that will be monitored to ensure the improvement of learning.

Child Find

The purpose of Child Find is to locate, identify, and evaluate children from 2 to 21 years of age with disabilities and their possible need for special education and related services.  The Corpus Christi ISD evaluation team targets children 2 to 5 years of age who are not enrolled in school.

Child Find is free and available through the Office of Special Education in Corpus Christi ISD.

Children learn at different rates but some children have significant difficulty in one or more of the following areas: social interaction, play, speech and language, vision, hearing, attention, behavior, or coordinating movements. We’re here to help you access services to meet the unique learning needs of your child.
