garcia library

The Garcia Elementary community recently celebrated the grand reveal of its beautifully renovated library, dedicated to the legacy of Mrs. Norma De Leon, an inspiring leader who devoted 29 years to CCISD. Mrs. De Leon’s journey in the district began as a classroom teacher for 13 years. She then became the Assistant Principal of Garcia Elementary under the leadership of Dr. Patricia Castillo, later becoming the proud principal of Garcia Elementary on Greenwood in 2007.

Mrs. De Leon’s leadership led to the successful merger of two campuses into the state-of-the-art building now located on Gollihar Road, home of the Garcia Navigators. She continued as principal there for eight more years, retiring in the summer of 2020.

"Our library reveal is unique in that it allows us to celebrate the instructional leadership of Norma De Leon," Proud principal Sonia Vega said.

Students and teachers of Garcia Elementary shared kind words of how Mrs. De Leon has inspired them. "Mrs. De Leon always strived to make me a better teacher,” said the quote submitted by third grade teacher Erica Wilson. “She laid the foundation for the teacher I am today."

A special thank you to the Education Service Center, Region 2 for making this possible for our students.
