Volunteerism empowers our students with the skills to maximize their potential. Alice West and Leslie Heilbronner’s classes have been working hard to contribute to their volunteer sites, the YMCA-Coastal Bend and Corpus Christi Food Bank.
Have you met our wonderful teacher Laura De La Rosa and paraprofessional Tina Vieyra? Together, they lead our campus TIDES program. TIDES stands for Teaching Independence, Empowerment and Determination Skills. These selected students have been engaging in art classes and will be bringing their work skills and social skills to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to participate in campus jobs. Students from the TIDES program had the opportunity to use B-line transportation to visit the Garcia Art Center where they engaged in a step-by-step workshop on painting a birdhouse using acrylics on canvas. This activity provided both artistic education and practical skills in community navigation.
