At Travis Elementary School, grooming and appearance are an important part of the positive school climate. The purpose of having a dress code is to create an environment that promotes school safety, student achievement, and appropriate behavior. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
General Clothing, Accessory, and Grooming Standards
Shirts
Shirts must fit appropriately, no oversized shirts allowed
No midriffs (when you raise your hands above your head if your stomach shows, it is too short)
Tanks tops, muscle shirts, halter tops, spaghetti straps, garments that expose backs or midriffs, low-cut blouses/tops are NOT allowed
Bottoms (Pants/Shorts/Capris/Skirts/Jumpers):
No oversized pants or shorts
Must fit appropriately on the waist and the crotch
The length of shorts, skorts, skirts, jumpers must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee
Torn and frayed clothing is not allowed
No leggings allowed unless with a skirt or shorts of appropriate length
Shirt or top must cover the behind when wearing leggings bottoms must be an appropriate fit
Shoes
Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times
Tennis shoes with laces or Velcro closures are highly encouraged for safety reasons.
All shoes must have a closed-toe and back covering
No Crocs are allowed for safety reasons
Accessories
All accessories must meet the district dress code guidelines
Belts need to be worn if pants are loose-fitting
Belts must not be distracting No extra-long belts
Body piercing is prohibited
Bandanas, hats, and caps are prohibited
Solid hoodies may be worn, but hoods must stay down in the building
No tattoos (no temporary tattoos or ink on body)
For safety, no acrylic, gel, press-on nails, or make-up
No long dangly earrings, only studs allowed
Hair
Must be clean and neat
Must be out of student’s eyes
Must not be distracting due to cut or color
No distracting hair accessories
Backpacks/Purses:
Must be CLEAR. See CCISD Policy
Prohibited Items
Students CANNOT wear the following:
Oversized clothing
Heels
Crocs
Sandals
Light-up Shoes
Sweat bands on the head, leg, or arm
No graphics that depict violence or mature themes can be worn on any clothing item
Pictures, emblems, or writings on clothing, possessions, or the body that: (a) are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene, or (b) advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other substance prohibited under FNCF (Legal)
Consequences
First and Second offenses:
Students will receive a warning
Hoodies: If a student wears a hood in the building and has been warned to remove the hood in the building, the administration will not allow the individual student to wear jackets and/or sweaters with a hood.
Any Additional offense:
Students who persistently violate dress and grooming standards may be subject to other disciplinary actions as specified in the Student Code of Conduct.
In addition to the Travis Elementary School dress code, students must also follow the dress code requirements adopted by the CCISD Board of Trustees and as written in the Student and Parent Handbook. The Superintendent’s designee/principal/assistant principal has authority to make final determinations on acceptable dress and grooming.
